Glenapp Castle, Ballantrae, United Kingdom

Glenapp Castle, formerly the family seat of the Earl of Inchcape, is now a luxury hotel and restaurant located about 2.5 kilometres southeast of Ballantrae, South Ayrshire. The castle was built for the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the County, James Hunter. It has no older origin. Designed by the famous Scottish architect David Bryce the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire at the time, the Castle was finished in 1870. It is a noteworthy example of the Scottish Baronial style of architecture The Inchcape family owned the castle from 1917 until the early 1980s. Pioneering aviator Elsie Mackay, daughter of the first Earl of Inchcape, lived at the castle until her untimely death in 1928 in an attempt to fly the Atlantic in a single engined Stinson Detroiter. The Castle opened as a hotel in 2000.

Probably the most luxurious hotel I've ever had the pleasure of visiting; my husband and I didn't want to leave! The building and the rooms are absolutely stunning, the food is exquisite and the staff could not have done more for us. We came here for a short break just after we got married and it was truly an experience that we will never forget.

My wife and I enjoyed afternoon tea at Glenapp Castle. The service was excellent and the staff were most courteous while friendly and very welcoming. Guests' privacy is paramount and the carefully managed access, which may seem surprising at first, undoubtedly helps contribute to the Glenapp experience.

A fancy place. By the time you arrive to the gate, you are amazed by the views of castle garden's. It's surprising you when you drive through the tree tunnel until the monkey tree. The whole experience is fantastic.

Church of St Donatus

The Church of St Donatus name refers to Donatus of Zadar, who began construction on this church in the 9th century and ended it on the northeastern part of the Roman forum. It is the largest Pre-Romanesque building in Croatia.

The beginning of the building of the church was placed to the second half of the 8th century, and it is supposed to have been completed in the 9th century. The Zadar bishop and diplomat Donat (8th and 9th centuries) is credited with the building of the church. He led the representations of the Dalmatian cities to Constantinople and Charles the Great, which is why this church bears slight resemblance to Charlemagne's court chapels, especially the one in Aachen, and also to the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna. It belongs to the Pre-Romanesque architectural period.

The circular church, formerly domed, is 27 m high and is characterised by simplicity and technical primitivism.
