Cinzano Castle

Cinzano, Italy

Cinzano Castle construction began around 1666 when the Marquis Carlo Renato Della Chiesa decided to enlarge and embellish the ancient castle and to surround it with a garden. In the beginning of the 19th century, the branch of the firstborn of the Chiesa family died out and the castle was sold with all of its possessions, which were divided up.

In 1872, the Marquis Ludovico Della Chiesa reacquired the castle and restored it in a Neo-medieval style embellishing it with new crenellation copied from that of the older tower and giving the castle a new rising entrance and a small out-building for the gardener.

Cinzano Castle, which has undergone various transformations over the centuries, remains a symbol of the town for its position and its admirable importance from all over the district. The castle is not visible, it has been divided into many private apartments ... May 2022 a ground floor apartment for sale.

It is a stop on my bike rides through the hills, essentially due to the presence of a small house with water distribution, some benches and a beautiful view.

St. Martin Rotunda

The Chapel of St. Martin is the only completely preserved Romanesque building in Vyšehrad and one of the oldest in Prague. In was built around 1100 in the eastern part of the fortified outer ward. Between 1100 and 1300, the Rotrunda was surrounded by a cemetery. The building survived the Hussite Wars and was used as the municipal prison of the Town of the Vyšehrad Hill.

During the Thirty Years’ War, it was used as gunpowder storage, from 1700 to 1750, it was renovated and reconsecrated. In 1784, the chapel was closed passed to the military management which kept using it as a warehouseand a cannon-amunition manufacturing facility. In 1841, it was meant to be demolished to give way to the construction of a new road through Vyšehrad. Eventually, only the original western entrance was walled up and replaced with a new one in the sountren side. The dilapidating Rotunda subsequently served as a shelter for the poor.
