St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church

Kyiv, Ukraine

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas is the second oldest Roman Catholic church standing in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine after the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Cathedral. Today the building is shared between the Roman Catholic Church of Ukraine and the National Organ and Chamber Music Hall of Ukraine.

It was constructed in 1899–1909 and was built by the Latin Rite Catholic community in a Gothic type construction, by architects Władysław Horodecki and Emilio Sala. It stands at vulytsia Velyka Vasylkivska (Greater Vasylkiv street) in Pechersk Raion next to the Kyiv National Linguistic University between the National Sports Complex Olimpiysky and the Railroad station Kyiv-Tovarny.

St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Cathedral is a true gem in the heart of Kyiv. Nestled on Velyka Vasylkivska Street, this architectural marvel boasts a stunning blend of Gothic and modern styles. The moment you step inside, you're greeted with a serene ambiance and breathtaking stained glass that casts colorful reflections across the interior. The acoustics are remarkable, often hosting enchanting organ concerts that are a must-attend. What's truly heartwarming is the welcoming community and the peaceful atmosphere that permeates the place. Whether you're a local or a tourist, a visit to this cathedral offers a moment of tranquility and awe in the bustling city. A must-visit for anyone appreciating historical architecture and spiritual sanctuaries.

Lovely Catholic Church in Kyiv. I have posted the mass times. The church’s choir did a wonderful job. Confession was heard before and during the 10am mass (probably the other masses too). I do not believe there is an English mass in Kyiv. In the winter this church was pretty cold if you are not seated directly under the portable heaters, so bundle up :) I felt very welcome as a foreigner. Thanks!

Very beautiful building. Majestic architecture. Very impressive. Causes respect to the masters and engineers who built this temple. Inside is very spacious. This place will appeal to representatives of all religions and atheists. Here you can make beautiful photos if you cross the street to the Holliday Inn hotel! But the local authorities do not really care about this unique place. Renovation work is often carried out. And perhaps, under the guise of renovation, the temple is being destroyed.

Clementinum

The Clementinum is a historic complex of buildings in Prague. Until recently the complex hosted the National, University and Technical libraries, the City Library also being located nearby on Mariánské Náměstí. The Technical library and the Municipal library have moved to the Prague National Technical Library at Technická 6 since 2009. It is currently in use as the National Library of the Czech Republic.

Its history dates from the existence of a chapel dedicated to Saint Clement in the 11th century. A Dominican monastery was founded in the medieval period, which was transformed in 1556 to a Jesuit college. In 1622 the Jesuits transferred the library of Charles University to the Klementinum, and the college was merged with the University in 1654. The Jesuits remained until 1773, when the Klementinum was established as an observatory, library, and university by the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria.
