Santa Maria Maggiore

Miglionico, Italy

Santa Maria Maggiore in the town of Miglionico is a church with its romanesque belltower, attached to a small Franciscan convent. The church is mainly notable for housing the Polyptych of Miglionico, a large 18 panel masterpiece painted by Cima da Conegliano in 1499. The work was purchased by the local bishop in 1598, and installed in this chapel in the 18th century.

Beautiful country and welcoming people. I recommend visiting it, there are many works of art, including the medieval castle, where the conspiracy of the barons took place which is still represented through various shows upon reservation, an exciting cultural show, held in the rooms of the castle. , rush to look at it! Then there is the mother church, with works such as the Cima da Conegliano polyptych, the crucifix, Saint John the Baptist by an unknown author but exhibited at the Milan Expo in 2017, chosen by Sgarbi, since it is an excellent work, etc., etc. The photos that I have published instead are of the feast of the Madonna della porticella, a small sanctuary located in the countryside of Miglionico, which is celebrated on the first Sunday of September, where all the citizens of Miglionico, on that particular day, have lunch in the countryside tasting orecchiette at sauce as the first course, and stuffed chicken as the second course. After lunch everyone goes to the sanctuary since there is the church and the presence of the archbishop, where the mass and the procession are celebrated with the statue of the Madonna on their shoulders. After all this, when everything is finished, the Madonna is transported towards the town in Piazza Castello, where the Madonna is welcomed again, to the sound of music with the Cozzavuffl band, and fireworks. For those who do not have the possibility of eating in the countryside, you can do it directly at the sanctuary as there is a picnic atmosphere, with a large, beautiful oak tree, which you can even sleep under, where you can enjoy nature and the breathtaking view. Furthermore, always in the month of September there is the fig festival here buckets, with various tastings and organic food markets, dishes and traditional local desserts, there are also various restaurants, farmhouses and hotels where you can land, I recommend hosteria del malconsiglio, which in addition to being a pizza restaurant, is above all a renowned pastry shop. Instead in August there is the medieval festival of the conspiracy of the barons , on the 13th and 14th, with the parade of clothes from that period, for those who want to try this experience, you can contact the municipality. The panorama of my town is beautiful, you can enjoy the beauty of the San Giuliano dam, and from above From the castle you can also glimpse the sea. Come........

A beautiful basilica located in the center of Miglionico. A little small to consider it a basilica, but inside it is well structured. Good acoustics. The internal rooms are comfortable and well structured.

A religious place full of charm full of exceptional sculptural works with an altarpiece with wonderful paintings. Too bad for the glass sheet full of reflections that protects the sculpture and the altarpiece, which does not allow a full view of what has been repaired

A beautiful Church that deserves a worthy restoration within the internal walls to make it even more appreciable

Temple of Edfu

The Temple of Edfu is one of the best preserved ancient shrines in Egypt. It was built in the Ptolemaic Kingdom between 237 and 57 BC.

Edfu was one of several temples built during the Ptolemaic Kingdom, including the Dendera Temple complex, Esna, the Temple of Kom Ombo, and Philae. Its size reflects the relative prosperity of the time. The present temple initially consisted of a pillared hall, two transverse halls, and a barque sanctuary surrounded by chapels. The building was started during the reign of Ptolemy III Euergetes and completed in 57 BC under Ptolemy XII Auletes. It was built on the site of an earlier, smaller temple also dedicated to Horus, although the previous structure was oriented east–west rather than north–south as in the present site.
