Fantastic news! The National Archaeological Museum was inaugurated in the rooms of the castle. In these spaces the history of the territory populated by the Ausoni-Aurunci is reconstructed, from its origins in the Iron Age (9th-8th century BC) to the foundation of the Latin colonies of Suessa and Minturnae after the Roman conquest of 313 BC. In the first three rooms the story retraces the pre-Roman phases, focusing specifically on the sanctuaries and enclosed sacred areas. The subsequent rooms illustrate the Roman age with a tripartite narrative: the first is dedicated to the extra-urban area, characterized by the presence of rustic villas and settlements dedicated to the production of wine; the second, to the urban space of Suessa; the third, at the theater of Sessa Aurunca. To ensure full usability of the archaeological heritage on display, they have been installed tactile stations for blind visitors and multimedia tools that integrate the exhibition with documents of a high cultural level. Opening hours: Tuesday and Friday 3.00pm-7.00pm (last entry 6.30pm), Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 9.00am-1.00pm (last entry 12.30pm), closed on Mondays. The ticket is also valid for entry to the Roman Theater of Sessa Aurunca.

Little known but it is an interesting site. In the exhibition hall, the statue of Mindia Matidia Minor stands out for its grandeur, in black and white marble, the headless statue of the emperor Hadrian, stuccos and frescoes of the Roman Theater

Truly fantastic setting inside the Ducal Castle of Sessa Aurunca, even more so when you find the performance of maestro Ambrogio Sparagna in concert..

Walls of Constantinople

The Walls of Constantinople are a series of defensive stone walls that have surrounded and protected the city of Constantinople (today Istanbul) since its founding as the new capital of the Roman Empire by Constantine the Great. With numerous additions and modifications during their history, they were the last great fortification system of antiquity, and one of the most complex and elaborate systems ever built. They were also the largest and strongest fortification in both the ancient and medieval world.

Initially built by Constantine the Great, the walls surrounded the new city on all sides, protecting it against attack from both sea and land. As the city grew, the famous double line of the Theodosian Walls was built in the 5th century. Although the other sections of the walls were less elaborate, they were, when well-manned, almost impregnable for any medieval besieger.
